Being Connected

International Women’s Day is a beautiful opportunity to celebrate the incredible women in my life—both friends and family—who have shaped who I am today.

Firstly, my mother stands out. Though our time together was too short, as she passed away far too young, her impact on me was immense. She instilled in me an appreciation for aesthetics and a deep love for art, dance, theatre, and the written word—along with a shared passion for shoes (her collection may have even rivaled mine!). Her sacrifices paved the way for my achievements, and for that, I am truly grateful.

My sister is another remarkable woman I am proud to celebrate. Her passion, zeal for life, her uncanny luck at cards, and her incredible resilience have all inspired me. Through her, I’ve learned the importance of empathy, the power of humor, and the strength found in vulnerability.

The legacies of my grandmothers—both of whom I lovingly referred to as Nana—are deeply intertwined in my life. One Nana’s nurturing spirit taught me the value of community and compassion, while the other’s trailblazing journey instilled in me the importance of independence and advocacy. Together, they have shaped my beliefs and actions, reminding me that strength can take many forms. Recently, while sorting through some old papers, I came across one of my Nana’s newspaper columns, The Coffee’s On, where she mused about life and current events. Her words continue to inspire me.

My daughters have profoundly impacted my life, teaching me invaluable lessons in empathy, patience, humor, fun, laughter, resilience, and creativity. They inspire me to be a better person, reminding me of the importance of kindness, perseverance, and connection. As they continue to grow and shape their own identities, I am excited to see how their remarkable qualities will influence not only their own lives but also those around them. Their presence enriches my life immeasurably, and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from them every day.

I am also incredibly fortunate to have aunts on both sides of my family who inspire me with their wisdom and provide unconditional love and support. As well as many cousins, niece, extended family, and my sister-in-law.

Beyond family, I am grateful to work alongside extraordinary colleagues whose dedication and creativity inspire me daily. The camaraderie and support within our team foster a collaborative environment that motivates me to strive for excellence and creates a strong sense of belonging at work.

Among my friends, I am lucky to have a diverse group of incredible women who uplift and empower one another. The laughter we share and the encouragement we offer each other create a foundation of friendship. As we navigate life’s challenges and celebrate our victories together, I am deeply thankful for the positive impact they have on my life. Their presence makes every moment more vibrant and fulfilling.

On this International Women’s Day, I celebrate these extraordinary women who inspire me to be my best self. Their creativity and support remind me of the collective power of women, and I am grateful to have them in my life. I honor these women—and all those who have fought for equality, nurtured dreams, and supported one another. Their strength, resilience, and love remind us of the profound impact women have in shaping a better future for all.
