Being Happy
There are so many things that bring me happiness. As I reflect on what brings me joy the list is endless.
Most of the things are simple, inexpensive, or free. Every day I partake in a simple pleasure.
Here are some of the things that I enjoy the most:
Singing along to a favourite song (playing it loudly ideally in my car with my windows and sunroof open with the breeze in my hair)
Fresh flowers filling my house with blooms and scents
Sunshine on my face
A bubble bath infused with lavender
Listening to an anticipated podcast episode
Forest Bathing, walking in nature, or a stroll along the ocean with a good friend, family, or alone
Live Music
An amazing prepared meal with new tastes, or a favourite meal
Laughter with a good friend
Time with my daughters
Seeing a picture of my grandson and hearing his laugh
Starting a new book that is so compelling I cannot put it down
Any self-care; meditation, facial, mani, pedi, etc...
Having a nap on sheets fresh in from the clothesline
Going to the race track and watching my horse come in first place
The feeling after a really hard spin class
Interesting conversation with someone known or unknown to me
Random acts of kindness
I could go on and on. Every day I do something often many things that bring me happiness and joy. It is the simple things in life that I believe enrich us, ground us, and allow for a full life.
During COVID when there was much uncertainty and limitations to daily life, I realized so many other things that bring me happiness and that I look forward to doing again – it can be going on a trip, having a dinner party, a night on the town, watching a play, visiting a museum, going on a date, singing at a concert, or time with family and friends. I love having things to look forward to on my agenda that I can anticipate and get excited about.
What brings you happiness? Do you bring joy into your life every day?
What are your favourite things that ground you and make you smile?
