Being Nostalgic

Recently I found myself with a few hours to kill while on the west side of Vancouver. I decided to take a drive over to Kits, take a walk on the beach, head up Broadway for a coffee, and stroll down South Granville. There was so much the same - that triggered some happy memories and yet some changes which made me feel good to see the evolution.

As a long-time Vancouverite, it got me thinking about all the experiences and people in my life over the years. I felt a little nostalgic – which is both happy and melancholy at the same time.

Mostly I felt great gratitude to have had these periods and times in life. I believe everything has a season and reason. So, reflecting on the people I have met, spent time with, and the different interactions I've had with them, they have all brought something to me - whether I learned something new, gained energy from them, or heard stories of different life adventures.

Sometimes the individuals we meet stay for a long time or a short time. Some relationships end abruptly and others fizzle out.

In my life, I have realized there are stories and experiences from my past that I hold onto. I try to learn from unpleasant ones, embrace the changes (although the physical changes in a woman in her 50s - can sometimes be more challenging than others 😊), and fondly recall the others.

I do not believe that being stuck in the past is a good thing - the could of, should of, would of – this is where we can get blocked and unable to move forward. Take all the people you meet, paths taken, opportunities and experiences, and be thankful for them.

As things close - other things open. Ajar or wide open, that is up to you. Use the past to remind you of all the people, places, and things you have loved and lived, but also as a guide to new adventures.

Embrace where you are - who you are right here and right now!
